Note: As the events in Israel and Palestine continue to unfold, everyone is anxiously anticipating what the next steps will be from Israel following the October 7 attack. The analysis will also try to keep up with the now declared war by Netanyahoo and Israeli government against Hamas, read Palestine. The war in Gaza is also affecting the rest of Occupied Palestine as we speak. Some 20 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank as Israel continues its raids against Palestinians, both civilians and militants there. This is an ongoing analysis. Apologies for any errors in the article below. Instead of enjoying the read, absorb the read and keep on researching.
As Mother Nature continues to strangle half the world and several conflicts continue, the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine has been under the radar and out of the sight of the mainstream media and the apolitical news followers. On October 7th, Hamas launched a barrage of rockets from blockaded Gaza into Israel mostly against the Southern Israeli cities of Sderot, Ashdod and Ashkelon and kibbutz (collective farms) that border the blockaded Gaza Strip such as Kfar Aza and Be'eri. Some 1000+ Israelis, many families, men, women, children including babies, teenagers and college students were brutally killed by Hamas militants after the rockets fell in a surprise attack that Israeli military and intelligence didn't see coming. The attack has injured thousands of Israelis mostly civilians.
What makes this different from previous rocket attacks in response to the ongoing blockade an siege of Gaza by Israeli occupation forces and military, Hamas militants were able to attack a major border crossing between Gaza and Israel, the Eretz Crossing and cross over into Israel, via homemade paragliders. They attack soldiers, but mostly aimed for civilians and took Israeli civilians hostage. This is not the first time Hamas has launched rockets against Israel and Israel has retaliated with collective punishment of the civilians of Gaza. As with the sudden blitz from Hamas, the origins of the attacks were building for months if not years.
A grim 50th anniversary of the 1973 October War
Yesterday, October 6th marked the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War also known as the October War (Egypt) between Israel and Egypt. Syria also joined the war briefly as an ally of Egypt against Israel. The anniversary wasn't missed and the significance hasn't been forgotten. The October war was the 3rd Arab-Israeli war at the time since the creation of Israel in 1948. The war was an effort by Egypt and Syria to regain their lands that they had lost to Israeli occupation and annexation in 1967 during the June 6th War. Israel had occupied and moved illegally thousands of Israeli settlers into the Egyptian Sinai, had taken the reminder of 22% of Palestine East Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza Strip from Jordanian and Egyptian control, had taken the Golan Heights from Syria. The Golan Heights is the only land from the 1967 war that still reminds under Israeli occupation and control. Syrian rebels tried to take the land at one point during the recent conflict in Syria but failed and were repelled by Israeli army.
