Sudan: Heroes and Good Samitarians in the Darkness of war

It's been two long, grueling months since the war in Sudan began. Some 2 million people have fled the country to Egypt, Chad, Ethiopia and South Sudan since. Many ordinary Sudanese are hoping that the fighting ends soon rather than later in Khartoum and Darfur two of the main battlefields between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces. It needs to be reiterated that the national army is fighting a well armed militia group and the national army is not the same as the militia. It is no longer important who started the war or why, many are hoping it comes to an end. Many of Khartoum's residents remain in limbo and trapped in the city trying to sustain themselves with the minimal water, electricity and food that they are able to find amid soaring prices. Sudanese doctors continue to provide crucial, life saving aid to ordinary civilians and resident around Khartoum and its metropolitian area despite ongoing bombardments, limited electricity and exhausation. RSF has used hospitals particulary East Nile Hospital located in Eastern Khartoum as a military base a violation of international law. The residents and international aid groups are worried that Sudan could end up in a similiar dire humanitarian situation to the Yemen where many ordinary civilians especially children faced starvation and malnourishment. Many residents who left the city and didn't go abroad have settled temporarily in neighboring states such as Northern state, Al Gezira and El Obeid region. The more fortunate residents have made it to Port Sudan along with thousands of other dual nationals and foreign nationals https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-06-20/port-sudan-on-red-sea-teems-as-refugees-flee-civil-warstill waiting to depart to Saudi Arabia and than home. While the international media seems to be more sympathetic for the suffering Ukrainians, Arabic media networks and outlets still offer daily reports on Sudan and conducting interviews with ordinary Sudanese who managed to find safety in other parts of the country and Sudanese analysts. There are still real life heroes and good samaritans across Sudan risking their lives to provide medical are and aid rescue their fellow countrymen. Many of their heroes work under heavy stress and see it as their own personal duties to give support and aid from safe places, shelter, medical services, food among other things. Sudanese doctors have been crucial and critical in providing care and updates on the healthcare and services on the ground Khartoum and elsewhere in Sudan.

In Omdurman the youth led intiative from the neighborhood resistance groups have been providing urgent medical services to local residents of the Wad Nubawi community. The doctors and nurses have been working around the clock to keep community members not only alive but deliver urgent care given the stressful and tough situation.
The Sudanese resistance committees are part of the larger Pro Democracy movement across Sudan led by Sudanese youth. They have been instrumental in providing social services and medical aid to minimise the health crisis across Khartoum.
